Bermunchie: Malasadas (Portuguese Doughnuts)
This recipe has been requested by our followers almost 100 times I swear! Malasadas are a staple in all Portuguese homes and have now become a Bermudian favorite. Try our recipe for Malasadas and let us know how they come out!
MALASADAS ( Portuguese Doughnuts)
1 1/4 oz pkg yeast
1/3 cup warm water
1 tsp sugar
2 lbs flour
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup melted butter
1 1/3 cup milk
oil to fry
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water and sugar. Set aside until all ingredients are dissolve.
2. Add flour, sugar, and salt into a large bowl. Mix milk and water together; add to dry ingredients.
3. Add butter, beaten eggs and yeast mixture and stir to form soft dough. Cover and set in warm place and let double in size for approx. 1.5 hours.
4. Fry circular portions of dough in hot oil until lightly brown. Remove and drain excess oil. Coat with sugar.
Makes approx. 5 dozen
